Checking for RETAIN registration

About this task

Call-home processing of serviceable events depends on the RETAIN CCPF registration of each storage facility. In most countries, registration of the storage facility is completed by an automated process. For other countries, manual registration is needed, and you must check RETAIN registration.

Procedure

  1. Is the country of installation listed in Table 1, Table 2, or Table 3?
    • Yes, the storage facility serial number should already be registered. You can verify registration as a precaution, or you can proceed to the next section.
    • No, continue to the next step.

  2. Sign on to RETAIN to verify that this storage facility is registered.
  3. Enter n;z/cpu NNNNPPSSSSS where:
    NNNN
    Machine type (one of the following):
    2107, 2831, 2832, 2833, or 2834
    5331, 5332, 5333, 5334
    9581, 9586
    PP
    Plant of manufacture
    SSSSS
    The last 5 digits of the serial number.

    You can find this information on the storage facility rack machine type, model, and serial number (MTMS) label. The MTMS label is located at the left front of the management enclosure. Example: 5331-983 75-ABCD0.

    Note: If you use the WebRetain CPU utility, enter only plant and serial. Do not enter machine type.
  4. If the command output returns UNKNOWN CPU SPECIFIED or the WebRetain CPU utility returns "no records found", ask the support center to register the storage facility.
    Note: Some countries register using 00 instead of the actual two-digit plant of manufacture code. If the command output returns UNKNOWN CPU SPECIFIED when the actual plant of manufacture code is specified, retry the command with 00 before you call your next level of support. An example of the command is, n;z/cpu 2NNN00SSSSS.
