MAP0260 System hangs during resource configuration

This MAP handles problems when the system unit hangs while configuring a resource.

Before you begin

Note: Storage complex repair actions must always be managed from the management console. To replace any FRUs identified in this procedure, use Storage Facility Management > storage facility > Exchange Parts. If the FRUs are listed in this or another Serviceable Event, select them from there.
Important: All storage facility repair activity should be started from Start here. If you have not started from that procedure, go there now and start from the section Analyze and repair problems. If you did start from that section and the analysis procedures produced an SRN, follow the steps below.

Procedure

  1. The last three or four digits of the SRN following the dash (-) match a failing function code number.
    1. Look at the Failing function code list and find the failing function code that matches the last three or four digits of your SRN, following the dash.
    2. Record the FRU part number and description (use the first FRU part listed when multiple FRUs are listed).
    3. Find the location code of that device.
    4. Go to step 2.
  2. Are there any FRUs attached to the device described by the physical location code? (For example a location code like P1-T12 will have devices P1-T12-L3, P1-T12-L4 and P1-T12-L5 attached to it).
    • Yes, go to step 3.
    • No, go to step 6.
  3. Remove the first attached device described in the location code. Go to step 4.
  4. Does the system still hang after it is removed?
    • Yes, replace the device that you just removed and then go to step 5.
    • No, replace the removed device with a new FRU. Go to MAP1500 Ending a service action.
  5. Have you replaced the last attached device?
    • Yes, go to step 6.
    • No, remove the next attached device described in the location code and go to step 4.
  6. Replace the FRU indicated by the location code recorded in step 1 with a new FRU.
    Does the system still hang after it is replaced?
