MAP2260 DC-UPS battery service module (BSM) set isolation

This procedure isolates problems where the DC-UPS DC supply unit (DSU) does not properly detect or manage the DC-UPS battery service module (BSM) set.

MAP2260 Section-1 Entry

Procedure

  1. The serviceable event FRU list that sent you here contains one or more DC-UPS BSM FRUs.
  2. Find the condition that applies to the FRU list:
    • "BSM set" means the DC-UPS BSM set FRU
    • "DSU" means the DSU FRU

MAP2260 Section-2 Two or three BSM sets

Procedure

  1. The problem is isolated to one BSM set. The remaining BSM sets for this DC-UPS are also listed in the serviceable event list. This is a special case.
    • All BSM sets for a DC-UPS must have a born-on date not greater than 22 months difference from each other. This date ensures that the energy storage and discharge capacity of the BSM sets is compatible.
    • When a FRU list contains all the BSM sets for that DC-UPS, it means that one BSM is suspect, and if it is replaced, then the remaining BSM sets must also be replaced.
    • The suspect BSM set is listed first in the FRU list. The remaining BSM sets listed in the FRU list have a born-on date greater than 22 months from today's date.
  2. Check whether each power cable (J20, J21) and signal cable (J30, J31) is properly connected to each of the four BSM modules in all listed BSM sets (Figure 6).

    Are the cables properly connected?

    • Yes, go to the next step.
    • No, select the BSM in the serviceable event FRU list and do a pseudo repair. When directed to replace the BSM set, you must follow the steps in the order that is listed to disconnect and then reconnect all the cables that are connected to the secondary BSMs. Do not physically replace the BSM set. (If you just reconnect the disconnected cable, the repair fails). Exit this procedure.
  3. Exit this MAP and perform a pseudo-repair on the DC-UPS that contains the affected BSM sets. While the DC-UPS is powered off, replace all BSM sets in that DC-UPS.
    1. Exit the MAP to return to the screen that sent you here.
    2. To the question, "What was the result of using the service procedure from Infocenter?" click Problem not fixed and then click Next.
    3. To the question, "Did you exchange any parts?" click No and then click Next.
    4. To the question, "Did you isolate the problem?" click Yes and then click Next.
    5. In the Select all the failing FRUs windows that follow, select the affected DSU for repair.
      1. If the affected DSU appears in the first window, select the DSU, then select All failing FRUs have been selected and click Next.
      2. If the affected DSU does not appear in the first window, select Show more FRUs and click Next. Locate the affected DSU, select it, and click Next.
Note: If you cannot locate the affected DSU in the Select all the failing FRUs windows, you can select Delay the repair, exit, and use Exchange Parts menu to complete the repair: Storage Facility Management > storage facility > Exchange Parts > Exchange Rack Components...
    6. Complete the service action. When directed to replace the DSU, ensure that the DC-UPS is powered off and replace all BSM sets in that DC-UPS.
      1. Disconnect the cable from Ex-J9 at the bottom right of the other DC-UPS DSU (the one NOT being repaired).
Note: The DSU Service LED is flashing on the DSU being repaired. Disconnect the cable from the other DC-UPS DSU. All other cables can remain connected.
      2. At the DC-UPS DSU being repaired, set the CB1 main line switch to Off (down).
      3. With DC-UPS power removed, replace all BSM sets in that DC-UPS.
      4. At the DC-UPS DSU being repaired, set the CB1 main line switch to On (up).
      5. At the DC-UPS DSU REMAINING IN CUSTOMER USE, connect the Ex-J9 DSU to DSU communication cable at the bottom right.
    7. Close the serviceable event that referred you to MAP2260, if it is not already closed.

MAP2260 Section-3 One BSM set

Procedure

  1. The problem is isolated to one BSM set.
  2. Check whether each power cable (J20, J21) and signal cable (J30, J31) is properly connected to each of the four BSM modules in this BSM set (Figure 5 or Figure 6).For Model 98x, three-phase, check whether each power cable (Callout label 2, Callout label 5) and signal cable (Callout label 3, Callout label 6) is properly connected to each of the four BSM modules in this BSM set (Figure 4).

MAP2260 Section-4 DSU and one BSM set

Procedure

  1. The problem is isolated to one DSU and one BSM set.
  2. Check whether each power cable (J20, J21) and signal cable (J30, J31) is properly connected to each of the four BSM modules in this BSM set (Figure 4, Figure 5, or Figure 6).

    Is the cable properly connected?

    • Yes, go to the next step. Select the BSM in the serviceable event FRU list and do a normal repair. Exit this procedure.
  3. Replace each FRU in the order that is listed in the serviceable event FRU list until the problem is fixed.
