MAP3280 storage enclosure installation failed: at least one drive is missing, unplugged, or bypassed

The installation for the storage enclosures that you are installing failed because a drive is missing, unplugged, or bypassed.

MAP3280 Section-1

Procedure

  1. Select the rack model that applies:
    • 941/94E, continue at the next step.
    • 951/95E, 961/96E, 98x, or 8xE go to step 4.
  2. Refer to the FRU list in the serviceable event that sent you here.
    1. For each drive in the FRU list, read the location code.
The location code is the special format that is used during MES and installations. An example of a location code is Rw-Sxy-P1-Dz, where:
      • w = 1–5, the rack number
      • x = 1, the front storage enclosure and x = 2, the rear storage enclosure
      • y = 1–8, the storage enclosure location, top to bottom
      • z = slot 1–16, the drive slot location
    2. For each location code, locate the physical location by using Figure 1, Figure 2, and Figure 3.

  3. The normal serviceable event FRU replace procedure cannot be used. The code objects are not yet created because the installation failed. Continue with the following steps:
    1. Replace each drive in the FRU list with a new drive now. The drive can be hot-plugged with no damage to the storage enclosure and drive.
    2. Wait for the new drives to be in the ready state before you go to step 7.
  4. Refer to the FRU list in the serviceable event that sent you here.
    1. For each drive in the FRU list, read the location code. There are two formats:
      1. The location code is the special format that is used during MES and installations. An example of a location code is Rw-Gx-P1-Dz, where:
        • w = 1–5, the rack number
        • x = 01–20, storage enclosure location, top to bottom
        • z = slot 1–24, the drive slot location
      2. The location code is the normal format. An example of a location code in the normal format is U2107.D02.yyyyyyy-P1-Dz, where:
        • yyyyyyy = the 7-character storage enclosure serial number
        • z = slot 1-24, the drive slot location
Note: If format U2107.D02.yyyyyyy-P1-Dz appears, instead of using the figures below, use the serial number information embedded in the location code to locate the storage enclosure. For drive slot location, refer to the figures below.
    2. For each location code, locate the physical location by using Figure 4, Figure 5, Figure 6, Figure 7, Figure 8, Figure 9, Figure 10, Figure 11, Figure 12, and Figure 13.

  5. The normal serviceable event FRU replace procedure cannot be used. The code objects are not yet created because the installation failed. Continue with the following steps:
    1. Replace each drive in the FRU list with a new drive now. The drive can be hot-plugged with no damage to the storage enclosure and drive.
  6. Is the drive green activity LED indicator Callout label 1 lit solid or flashing?
    • Yes, go to the next step.
    • No, try reseating the drive. If it still fails, replace the drive with another new drive. If it still fails, replace the storage enclosure midplane FRU.
Note: You cannot use normal guided maintenance to replace the midplane because the installation failed before all the needed code objects were created. Instead, remove all power from the storage enclosure and refer to the "Exchange the storage enclosure midplane" procedure in the Exchanging Parts section of this service information center. After the new midplane is installed, reconnect all storage enclosure power.
  7. Are there any other open serviceable events for the storage enclosures that you are installing?
    • Yes, if the other serviceable event also includes SRC BE340080 or BE34004D, use this MAP to replace the listed FRUs.
    • If the other serviceable event includes a different SRC that cannot be repaired, stop and contact your next level of support.
  8. Close the open serviceable events for the storage enclosures that you are installing.
  9. Retry the storage enclosure installation procedure:
    1. Do not disconnect any of the FC-AL cables from the storage enclosures that you are installing.
    2. As you go through the installation procedure, ignore any instructions to connect the cables; they are already connected.
    3. The installation process installs the storage enclosures and provides a "FRU verification test" for the drives that you replaced. If the installation fails with the same SRC and drive, contact your next level of support.
    4. Exit this procedure and complete the installation.
