MAP4920 Handling a missing device adapter resource
This failure indicates that an expected device adapter resource was not found (SRC = BE340012). This failure might mean that the resource is not in the expected location or the resource is failing in such a way that it cannot be detected.
MAP4920 Section-1
Procedure
-
Did this failure occur during an installation procedure?
- Yes, go to step 2.
- No, go to step 7.
- Does the serviceable event FRU list
contain multiple storage enclosures?
- Yes, go to step 3.
- No, go to step 7.
-
Ensure that each end of the FC-AL cables in the rack is connected (one end at the storage
enclosure, the other end at the I/O enclosure device adapter card). Review the installation
instructions to determine whether the FC-AL cables need to be routed from the rack that you are
installing and connected to another rack.
Are the cables connected properly?
- Yes, observe the storage enclosure LEDs and DDMs to ensure that power is on. If the power is not on, review the installation instructions or contact your next level of support. If the power is on, go to step 7.
- No, go to the next step.
- Use the installation instructions to connect the FC-AL cables correctly.
-
The storage enclosures now need to have the hardware resources "harvested." This harvesting
automatically occurs each time the storage facility is
powered on, or when a CEC enclosure is powered on. To
harvest the hardware resources, perform either of the following procedures:
- Power-cycle the storage facility.
- Use the Storage Facility Management > storage facility > Exchange Parts option to do a pseudo part replacement of a CEC enclosure FRU (when you perform a pseudo part replacement, you do not actually replace the part, even though you use the part replacement procedure).
- Manually invoke the drive certify process to the
DDMs in the storage enclosures that you just recabled.
From the Service interface:
- From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility.
- From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > View/Certify drives. A window opens and displays the number and type of drives to be certified.
- The certify process can take a few hours. Continue the installation procedure during the certify process.
From the DS8000 storage management GUI:
- From the navigation area, click Service > Install Hardware > View/Certify Drive.
- A window opens and displays the number and type of drives to be certified. Click Refresh as needed to monitor the certify process.
- The certify process can take a few hours. Continue the installation procedure during the certify process.
-
View the list of Serviceable Events for this Storage Facility. For guidance, use MAP1210 Displaying and repairing a serviceable event.
Do you have an open serviceable event that lists a FRU that is related to the same resource in the serviceable event that sent you here? (For example, an I/O enclosure backplane, device adapter card, FC-AL cable, FCIC card, storage enclosure backplane, or DDM?)
- Yes, repair that serviceable event first. After the repair, if you still have missing resources, return here.
- No, go to the next step.
-
Visually inspect the resource or FRU listed in the serviceable event that sent you here. Use the location code
that is listed to ensure that the part is not physically missing or that it was not in the wrong
location during a repair. Use the following guidelines:
- If the part is missing, repeat the installation or service procedure to install the part. If an installation cannot be repeated, try using the Storage Facility Management > storage facility > Exchange Parts procedure.
- If the part was installed in the wrong location, the code discovered it and created a resource object for it. Even after you physically remove the part, the resource object will remain. The resource object must be found and manually removed with command line access; contact your next level of support for this removal.
- Even if a part is present and passes a visual inspection, replace it. To replace the part, use the serviceable event FRU list or use the Storage Facility Management > storage facility > Exchange Parts procedure.
