MAP6560 Disk drive problem

Use this procedure to test the disk drive in the hardware platform for the management console.

MAP6560 Section-1

Procedure

  1. Test the management console by using the procedures in MAP6530 Testing the management console. Select Extended > Fixed Disks. Use the on screen options to run all the tests to the hard drive. Return here when the test is complete.
  2. Did the disk drive test fail?
    • Yes, continue with the next step.
    • No, go to step 8.
  3. Exchange the FRUs called by the diagnostics one at a time.
For FRU removal and replacement instructions, refer to the hardware maintenance manual that is on the IBM® DS8000® series Service Documents CDROM for your specific hardware platform (eServer or laptop).
  4. When each FRU is exchanged, test the repair using the information in MAP6530 Testing the management console.
  5. Retest the hard disk drive. Did the disk drive test fail?
    • Yes, call for assistance.
    • No, continue with the next step.
  6. If you exchanged the disk drive and there are jumpers or tab settings on the new disk drive, ensure they are set the same as the old drive. If there is a SCSI cable-terminating resistor device, ensure it is secured to the cable and, if necessary, reattached to its original location on the PC. Continue with the next step.
  7. If you exchanged the disk drive, restore the management console image to the new disk drive. Refer to Reloading the Hardware Management Console Image.
  8. Use the information in MAP6530 Testing the management console. Select Run All Selected.
    • If the tests fail, go to MAP6020 Management console problem determination to isolate the problem.
    • If the tests run without errors, turn off the PC power and then turn on the power. Ensure that the system boots and the management console screen displays.
