Procedure

  1. After power-on, the HMC login window prompts for the user ID and the password.
  2. The following user IDs and default passwords are pre-defined. Both the user ID and password are case-sensitive and must be typed exactly as shown.

    • For use by trained service personnel only.
    • Can be used onsite only at the management console.

    • For use by IBM® Product Engineering only.
    • Can be used on-site at the management console or by remote service access.
    • After entering the user ID and password, the HMC displays a custom-generated key code and prompts for the access code. The product engineer will use the key code to generate an access code, which is then entered to complete the login.

    • For use by the customer only. Customers should change this password after their first login.
    • If the customers forget their password, they may request IBM remote support to reset it to the default value. After that is complete, customers can immediately log in and change their password.
    Note 1: For LIC bundle levels at or above 87.52.xx.xx or bundle levels at or above 88.50.xx.xx, the customer has the option to change the default password for the CE user, or create additional users with the same role. Contact the customer for your login information. If all users with this role of esshmcserv are deleted, the default user ID and default password will be regenerated when the HMC is rebooted.
    Note 2: At later LIC bundle levels, a password change is required at initial login.
  3. After the successful login, the HMC graphical user interface appears.
