Exchange the CEC enclosure PCIe single port card (slot 5)

Before you begin

Attention:
  • This procedure is not a stand-alone procedure. Customer disruption and damage to the hardware might occur when microcode and power boundaries are not in the proper conditions for this service action.
  • If a serviceable event FRU repair directed you to this procedure, the microcode and power boundaries are already set.
  • If a serviceable event FRU repair did not direct you to this procedure, see MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event.
Notes:
  • All the cables and FRUs to be removed must be uniquely identified so they can be reinstalled correctly.
  • If an installed earthquake resistance kit prevents you from accessing this FRU, refer to MAP1600.

Remove the CEC enclosure PCIe single port card (slot 5)

Procedure

  1. Verify that the CEC enclosure is in the "power off" state before you continue. (The CEC enclosure should already be in the power off state.)
Note: If this FRU has a FRU identify indicator LED, it is no longer lit.

If you have not already located the FRU to be replaced, use the location code listed in the serviceable event FRU list. See MAP1245 Finding FRUs by using location codes.

  2. At the rear of the storage facility, view both CEC enclosure power supplies.

Are both DC GOOD LEDs flashing?

  3. Use a replacement part with a valid DS8000® part number to ensure that the DS8000-unique firmware is already installed and configured.

Attempting to use a generic part from an eServer™ will fail and complicate the repair.

  4. Remove all power from the CEC enclosure.
    • At the rear of the CEC enclosure, disconnect the power input cables Callout label A to both CEC enclosure power supplies.
    • At the CEC enclosure control panel, observe the green Power® Present icon, beneath the white Power button.
      • If it is slow flashing, the CEC enclosure is still in the power-off state. DO NOT CONTINUE. Ensure that you have unplugged the power cables.
      • If it is off, go to the next step.

  5. Verify that the PCIe cable is properly labeled, then disconnect it from the CEC enclosure PCIe single port card (slot 5).
Gently pull on the green release handle and then unplug the cable.
  6. Remove the PCI cassette:
    1. At the rear of the CEC enclosure, slide the lift tab Callout label A vertically to release it, and then lift and hold the PCI adapter EMC shield Callout label A in the open position.

    2. Lift up the lower cassette handle Callout label A as shown in the following figure. Pull the PCI cassette Callout label B out of the system.

Install the CEC enclosure PCIe single port card (slot 5)

Procedure

  1. At the rear of the CEC enclosure, install the PCI cassette.
    1. Ensure that the lower cassette handle of the FRU is pressed up toward the retainer clip. This places the adapter in the correct position to be docked in the system.
    2. Lift and hold the PCI adapter EMC shield in the open position.
    3. Slide the cassette into the cassette slot as shown above.
    4. When the cassette is fully inserted into the system, firmly press downward on the lower cassette handle to lock the adapter in its connector.
    5. Lower the PCI adapter EMC shield into the closed position and then slide the lift tab down to secure it.
  2. Reconnect the PCIe cable.
  3. At the rear of the CEC enclosure, connect the power input cable to both CEC enclosure power supplies.
  4. Ensure that the CEC enclosure is in power off state before you continue. At the CEC enclosure control panel, wait for the green Power Present icon beneath the white Power button to slow blink, and then continue the repair.
  5. Exit this service information center parts exchange procedure and return to the procedure that sent you here.
