Section-43, Connecting the keyboard display

Procedure

  1. Each management console has one VGA cable (display) and one USB cable (keyboard) extending from the rear of the management enclosure cable management arm about 1 meter. See Table 1 for the cable labels.

  2. Is this rack an IBM Z® ZR1/LR1?
    • Yes. Go to step 4.
    • No. Go to the next step.
  3. Route all four cables to the keyboard/display location. Do not connect them at this time.
    Go to the next section.
  4. Feature codes 0937/0938 for the IBM Z ZR1/LR1 rack include a VGA/USB adapter cable.
    1. The DS8882F end of the adapter cable has a VGA and a USB cable. Do not connect them now. Later in the installation, they will be connected to the MC1 cables located in step 1 of this section.
    2. The IBM Z end of the adapter cable has a single DB25 connector for the KVM switch. Connect the adapter cable to the KVM switch. Go to the next section.
  5. The power cable must be connected to an available IEC C13 connector in the rack. All the Model 983 UPS (power supplies) C13 connectors are already in use.
