MAP6730 Customer access to management console problem

The customer uses the DS8000® storage manager interface which is installed on a customer platform to access the DS8000 storage manager server on the management console (HMC).

Procedure

  1. Determine if this is a basic network problem. Can the customer "ping" the management console by hostname or TCP/IP address?
  2. Ensure the ESSNI server on the management console is enabled.
    1. From the navigation area, click HMC Management.
    2. In the right work area, go to the Storage Server HMC Tasks section and click Start/Stop ESSNI.
  3. Ensure ICAT is enabled.
    1. From the navigation area, click HMC Management.
    2. From the right work area, go to the Storage Server HMC Tasks section. Click Start/Stop DS Storage Manager.
  4. Ask the customer to check that the following TCP/IP ports are open on the firewall to allow access for DSCLI and DS8000 Storage Manager: 1751, 8452.
  5. Did you find a problem?
    • Yes, this is the end of this procedure.
    • No, go to step 6.
  6. Reboot the HMCs, one at a time.
  7. Can the customer access the management consoles by hostname or TCP/IP address?
    • Yes, the problem is no longer failing. Exit this procedure.
    • No, contact your next level of support.
