Before you begin

Attention:
  • This procedure is not a stand-alone procedure. Customer disruption and damage to the hardware might occur when microcode and power boundaries are not in the proper conditions for this service action.
  • If a serviceable event FRU repair directed you to this procedure, the microcode and power boundaries are already set.
  • If a serviceable event FRU repair did not direct you to this procedure, see MAP1230 Replace a FRU without using a serviceable event.
Notes:
  • All the cables and FRUs to be removed must be uniquely identified so they can be reinstalled correctly.
  • If an installed earthquake resistance kit prevents you from accessing this FRU, refer to MAP1600.

Remove the management console display/keyboard

About this task

Procedure

  1. To locate this FRU, take one of the following actions and then return here and continue to replace the FRU:
    • If this FRU has a FRU identify indicator, use the FRU identify indicator, which is listed in MAP1240 Locating FRUs by using identify indicators. If not, use the location code.
Note: There might be cases where the FRU failure or fencing conditions prevent the FRU LED indicator from being lit even if the FRU has power.
    • Use the location code, which is listed in MAP1245 Finding FRUs by using location codes.
    • If there is no FRU identify indicator or location code, you were sent here by an isolation MAP or symbolic FRU procedure. Use the information in that procedure and the figures in this procedure to locate the proper part to exchange.
  2. Most, but not all, FRUs have identify indicators. Use the flashing amber or solid blue FRU identify indicators to ensure that you are working on the correct enclosure or FRU.
  3. Shut down the management console.
    1. From the navigation area, click HMC Management.
    2. In the right work area, go to the Operations section and click Shut Down or Restart.
The Shutdown or Restart window opens.
    3. Select Shutdown HMC, then click OK.
    4. Wait for the HMC to power off then go to the next step.
  4. Power off the management console display, use the power button Callout label 2. Ensure the power LED Callout label 1 is off.

  5. At the rear of the rack, disconnect the management console server power cable Callout label 1.
  6. At the rear of the rack, disconnect the management console keyboard/display integrated cable Callout label 2 from the management console server.

  13. At the front of the rack, slowly pull the keyboard/display tray out of the rack and set it on a work surface.

Install the management console display/keyboard

About this task

Note: Ensure the management console has been shutdown. Go to step 3 above, then return here.

Procedure

  1. Set the new management console keyboard/display on a work surface. Unscrew the two black thumbscrews at the display end, so you can pull the display and make the rails full length. See Figure 8.
  2. Loosen, but do not remove, the rail length adjustment screw Callout label 1 on each rail. This will allow you in a later step to adjust the length once it is in the rack.
Figure 9. Management console rear rail length adjustment screw

  3. At the front of the rack, carefully slide the keyboard/display into its slot.
    1. You may need to squeeze the rails towards each other so they can go past the vertical rack mount surfaces.
    2. Ensure the cables are not damaged as you do this.
  4. At the rear of the rack, squeeze the rails towards each other so they can go past the vertical rack mount surfaces.
  5. At the front of the rack, install and tighten the four screws that fasten the rails to the rack mount surface.
  6. At the rear of the rack, install and tighten the two left screws and the upper right screw that fasten the rails to the rack mount surface. Install the right bottom screw but leave it two turns loose.
  7. Install the 208V multi-cable sliding it under the two screws Callout label 1 and then tighten the screws. See Figure 6.
  8. Reach in and tighten the rail length adjustment screw on each rail.
  9. Connect the three connectors Callout label 1 between the management console keyboard/display integrated cable Callout label 3 and the management console keyboard/display cable Callout label 2. See Figure 4.
  10. Connect the management console keyboard/display power cable Callout label 1 to the rack power cable The management console server will automatically power on. See Figure 3.
  11. At the front of the rack, ensure the keyboard/display tray can be pushed in and the two black thumbscrews tightened.
  12. Put the keyboard/display in the service position with the display up. Press the display power key Callout label 2 and ensure the power LED Callout label 1 is on. See Figure 1.
  13. Exit this service information center parts exchange procedure and return to the procedure that sent you here.
