Finishing installation and cleanup
Procedure
-
Will you be installing additional racks, storage enclosures, or other hardware features to this
storage facility as part of this installation activity?
- Yes, the backup of critical console data will occur after all installation activity is complete. Go to step 4.
- No, the backup of critical console data will occur now. Go to the next step.
-
Perform the following steps to back up HMC and Storage Facility Critical Data for each HMC
managing this storage complex. The process will only fail if it cannot successfully write the
information to at least one CEC LPAR boot drive.
- From the navigation area, click HMC Management.
- In the right work area, go to the Storage Server HMC Tasks section. Click Backup Critical Data. A progress screen is displayed. Wait for the status message Backup data process completed successfully to display and then click OK.
-
Test the call home connection for the newly installed racks.
- From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management.
- From the right work area, select the radio button for the existing storage facility. The bottom Task area displays a list of tasks you can select.
- From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > Test Problem Notification (PMH, SNMP, Email). The Test Problem Notification (PMH, SNMP, Email) window opens and lists the storage facility and its expansion racks, if any.
-
Perform the test on each of the listed racks:
- Select the first rack in the list and click Test Callhome.
- When you are prompted to generate reference code BEB20010, click Yes.
- When the message Test PMR Successful is displayed, make note of the rack serial number and problem ID, then click OK.
- Repeat the test for the remaining racks.
- Check open SRC BEB20010s and confirm that a PMH number has been returned from RETAIN. This return might take a while.
Note: You have previously verified that this storage facility is registered in Retain earlier in this installation. If the test fails, go to MAP1301 Isolating Call Home/remote services failure.
-
Monitor the drive certify process for completion. It was started automatically for all drives
being installed.
- From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility.
- From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > View/Certify drives. A window opens and displays the number and type of drives to be certified.
- When the drive certify process is complete, inform the customer that the storage facility is now available for configuration.
- Ensure that the HMC power control mode for this storage facility is returned back to the original customer setting. (This was set to Manual Power Mode in step 1 of "Preparing the existing rack.")
-
Use the View Storage Facility Status utility to ensure that there are no unreported or
unexpected problems or conditions.
- From the navigation area, click Storage Facility Management > storage facility.
- From the bottom Task area, click Service Utilities > View Storage Facility State.
-
A window opens listing passed/failed status for 25 or more system checks. You can display the
details for each system check.
Note: Further explanations and options are detailed in MAP1100 View storage facility state (end of call).
- Logout of the HMC. Close the keyboard tray and slide the keyboard/display drawer into the rack.
