Procedure

Find the symptom in Table 1 and perform the action listed.

Management console problems Action
Cannot log in to the management console Go to MAP6060 Management console login and login problems at the management console server.
HMC boot stopped with NIC error:
ONBOARD NIC FAILED
UNSUPPORTED CONFIGURATION
UNSUPPORTED NIC PCI
 Go to MAP6070 HMC boot stops with NIC problem.
Management console did not start, but no other problems were reported. Go to MAP6020 Management console problem determination.
Communication problems with one or more storage facilities. Go to MAP7000 Entry point For storage facility private network problems.
Communication problem to customer LAN. Go to MAP6580 Customer Ethernet connection problem.
Power problems. Go to MAP6520 Management console power problem.
Management console boot problems. Go to MAP6020 Management console problem determination.
Keyboard/display problem. Go to MAP6540 Keyboard/display problem.
DVD drive problem. Go to MAP6550 DVD RAM Drive Problem.
Disk drive problem. Go to MAP6560 Disk drive problem.
Diskette drive problem. (Applies only to xSeries X335, X336, X3550, and not to laptop management consoles). Go to MAP6570 Diskette drive problem.
You need to test the system to verify a problem with any of the following:
  • display
  • diskette drive
  • DVD drive
  • disk drive
  • Ethernet LAN
 Go to MAP6530 Testing the management console.
Eight character error code beginning with management console received when using the management console graphical user interface. Go to Management console error codes (0xxx, Exxx - Hxxx).
Management console does not communicate through the modem. Go to MAP6590 Modem problem.
All other problems (for example: management console graphical user interface unresponsive, parity errors, power, POST codes, blank display, mouse, or keyboard). Go to MAP6020 Management console problem determination.
